Course Description

Curriculum Leader: Matua T. Tauroa.

There is an emphasis on language for communicative purposes. Students will learn to communicate through listening (whakarongo), speaking (kōrero), reading (pānui) and writing (tuhi). By the end of the course they will be able to use both oral and written Māori to talk about themselves and their whānau (family). Simultaneously, they will experience and learn about Tikanga Māori (customs) and Te Ao Māori (the way of life). This course will also expose students to the history of Aotearoa.

Class trips might include an overnight stay at a marae, attending a pōwhiri, or an outing to celebrate Matariki (the Māori New Year).
