Teacher in Charge: Mrs V. Jonas
This course strengthens students’ confidence to express and exchange ideas to establish effective communication in French and further their understanding of French culture. Students will gain the skills to present an argument, discuss current events in France, New Zealand and the world at large. They will learn to express opinions, persuade on a number of topics such as environmental and social issues. Students are also introduced to French literature, with a study of a French novel. Students are encouraged to read widely.
Internal assessment 14 credits. External assessment 10 credits.
Possible competitions: Alliance Française Speaking Competition, Assessment of French Language Competence (ACER), Language Perfect Online Competition, NZAFT Concours d’Ecriture (French Writing Competition), Ecriture Sans Frontières (Creative Writing Competition), French Debating Competition.
Recommended Prior Learning
14 credits at NCEA Level 2 French or Curriculum Leader discretion based on
proficiency in French.
