Level 1 Physical Education is designed for students who are interested in learning about themselves in a variety of physical activities through practical investigations. Students will learn about the application of theory to teamwork, sport analysis and influences on their movement. Students will have the opportunity to experience outdoor activities and move outside of their comfort zones. This course will reflect the new big ideas, all of which connect through the importance of movement.

Learning covered in 2026: 

  • Develop diverse capabilities and acknowledge the importance of kotahitanga (unity/collaboration). This unit of work will include a 2-night outdoor education camp and other practical contexts.
  • Demonstrate movement strategies in a range of contexts (assessed in Ki o rahi).
  • Demonstrate understanding of influences on movement (Te Ao Māori, Biophysical and Sociocultural aspects).

15 NCEA L1 credits: 10 internal credits, 5 external credits (not an examination).
